Colonial Charm History... Mr. Charles Henry Foster built this house in 1920 as a store and home for his family. Mr. foster died at an early age in 1937 but Mrs. Foster continued living in the house with their children. Her store and ice cream parlour were well known in Charlottetown and are still talked about today. Fosters' Ice Cream Parlour was open until the late 1980s. In 1923 a dance hall called the Brighton Club was operated at the back end of the building. It was a gathering place for many young people including young men stationed in Charlottetown during the Second World War. Mrs. Foster is well remembered for running The Brighton Club very authoritatively. The house remained in the Foster family until it was sold to Gary MacDougall in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Foster's son. Extensive renovations were done to the building over the years to expand and modernize without removing any of the home's original character and charm. Colonial Charm Inn B&B opened in the summer of 1995 under the management of Gary MacDougall, offering three bedrooms sharing one bathroom. In 1996 Gary met his future wife Shelley who helped Gary change the Colonial Charm into what it is today. Presently, it includes four bed & breakfast rooms, two large suites and an executive suite apartment.
